WEB GEMS- Top 4th: Gene Woodling robbed Roy Sievers of a Homerun!
One run was the difference at Municipal Stadium as the Cleveland Indians
defeated the dreadful Washington Nationals in 12 innings 3 to 2.
The score was tied at 2 after nine. Cleveland came out the victor in the 12th
inning. After an out was recorded, Bobby Avila drew a walk. Gene Woodling
was next and he doubled making Cleveland the winners and sending the 40,820
fans home happy. Cleveland rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon.
Bob Lemon(13-10) was the winner allowing no runs in 1/3 of an inning. Johnny
Schmitz(8-9) was hit with the loss in relief. He allowed 1 hit and 1 walk in
1 and 1/3 innings.
Cleveland now has a record of 75-53. Chuck Dressen was pretty down after the
loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 2-8 in the
last week or two. That won't get it done.'
