Ted Kluszewski left the yard and had 2 RBI at Ebbets Field as the Cincinnati
Redlegs staged a comeback win over the Brooklyn Dodgers by the count of 4 to
3.
Cincinnati came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2
runs. After an out was recorded, Johnny Temple began the rally when he drew
a walk. After another out, Kluszewski stepped in and he smashed a two-run
homer (his 37th of the season). Cincinnati had 11 hits overall, while
Brooklyn had 8.
Johnny Klippstein(8-6) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and
allowing no runs. Klippstein got help from Hersh Freeman who was credited
with his 11th save. Clem Labine(9-6) was hit with the loss in relief.
Birdie Tebbetts was feeling mighty fine as he answered questions in his office
after the game, 'Now that was one fine ending! Did you see how the crowd just
sat there in silence after the winning run scored? Here we are celebrating
wildly, and the stadium is cloaked in virtual silence. Weird. but GREAT!'
