WEB GEMS- Top 6th: Jim Rivera robbed Pete Runnels of a Homerun!
One run was the difference at Comiskey Park as the indomitable Chicago White
Sox defeated the Washington Nationals 3 to 2.
The game was won by Chicago with a run in the 8th inning. After an out was
recorded, Nellie Fox stroked a base-hit. Minnie Minoso followed and he
singled. Jim Rivera then would hit into a force play scoring the run.
Washington made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the
needed runs across.
Harry Byrd(14-8) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Spec Shea(1-7)
was tagged with the loss in relief. He gave up 2 hits and 1 walk in 1 and
1/3 innings.
Chuck Dressen was in a sour mood after the game. 'Even you guys up in the
press box know why we lost this game. We made too many mistakes.'
