At Municipal Stadium the Kansas City Athletics easily handled the Washington
Nationals by the score of 5 to 1.
Kansas City jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 4th inning with 2 runs
using 4 hits. After an out was recorded, Hector Lopez began the Kansas City
spurt when he laced a single. Clete Boyer came next and he stroked a
one-base hit. Joe Demaestri then slapped a single knocking in a run.
Demaestri then stole second base. After another out, Arnie Portocarrero
stepped up to the plate and he lined a base-hit scoring the final run of the
inning. Overall Kansas City out-hit Washington 13 to 3.
The victory went to Portocarrero(8-3) who went 6 innings, allowing 1 run. Ted
Abernathy(5-8) was charged with the loss. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 11 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.
