Center fielder Al Smith had 2 base hits at Municipal Stadium where the
Cleveland Indians beat the Boston Red Sox 8 to 5.
Cleveland set the tone of the game in the first inning with 3 runs on 3 hits.
After an out was recorded, Gene Woodling got things rolling when he drew a
walk. One out later, Al Rosen came up and he smacked a single. Smith then
slapped a base-hit to load the bases. Ferris Fain was up next and he doubled
clearing the bases. Cleveland banged out 10 on the afternoon.
The win was credited to Mike Garcia(10-10) who went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing
3 runs. Ray Narleski gained credit for his 15th save. Frank Sullivan(12-12)
was tagged with the loss. He was unable to control the Cleveland offense and
allowed 6 hits and 4 walks in 2 innings.
