Willie Mays smashed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Polo Grounds as the New York
Giants beat the reeling St. Louis Cardinals by the count of 5 to 1.
It was a good day for New York thanks to Mays. He cleared the fences for a
two-run home run in the 3rd inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his
37th of the season) in the 8th inning. New York had just 6 hits for the
afternoon.
Don Liddle(5-6) went 7 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Liddle got
relief help from Windy McCall who gained credit for his 2nd save. The loss
was charged to Tom Poholsky(4-8). He pitched 6 innings and surrendered just
4 hits and no walks.
