AL Transaction August 31st
The Kansas City Athletics placed shorstop Joe Demaestri on the DL today. Demaestri, 26 years old, is in his 5th major league season. He was hitting .246 with 11 homers and 42 RBI in 482 plate appearances this year. Last season he hit .226 with 11 homers and 54 RBI in 566 plate appearances with the Athletics. KC skipper Lou Boudreau said he will be out for the rest of the season but should be fine for spring training next year.
To replace Demaestri the Athletics called up 23 year old SS Jerry Schypinski. He was signed as a free agent by the Athletics in 1952 and will be making his ML debut.
