At Wrigley Field the Chicago Cubs outscored the pitiful St. Louis Cardinals 5

to 2.

Chicago came up with all the runs they needed in the 3rd inning scoring 5

runners on 4 hits. That early scoring was all that Jim Davis(7-5) needed.

Despite losing, St. Louis out-hit Chicago 7 to 4.

Davis got help from Howie Pollet who was credited with his 4th save. Willard

Schmidt(6-4) absorbed the loss. He allowed 5 runs and 4 hits in 8 innings.
