In a close game the New York Giants got by the Cincinnati Redlegs by the score
of 4 to 2.
New York had the winning rally in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 2
base hits. After two outs Billy Gardner began the New York spurt when he
drew a walk. Don Mueller stepped into the batter's box and he stroked a
one-base hit. Willie Mays then drew a walk to load the bases. Hank Thompson
was up next and he banged out a single driving home two runs. Marv Grissom
was perfect in relief and gained credit for his 9th save.
The win went to Johnny Antonelli(11-12) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. Hersh
Freeman(6-4) was hit with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning allowing 2
hits and 2 walks.
