Rip Repulski slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI and Paul Lapalme stopped

Pittsburgh cold as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 10

to 8 at Forbes Field.



St. Louis erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning with 2 runs

using 3 hits. Pete Whisenant led off and started the attack as he lined a

single. Ken Boyer was next and he laced a single, and an error was also

committed. Red Schoendienst then stroked a one-base hit plating two runs.

St. Louis simply wore out the Pittsburgh pitching staff, scoring in 6

different innings.



Johnny Mackinson(1-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and

allowing 1 run. Mackinson was helped out by Lapalme who recorded his 4th

save. Max Surkont(4-13) was charged with the loss in relief. He gave up 3

hits and no walks in 2 innings.
