The Philadelphia Phillies nipped the New York Giants 6 to 5 at Connie Mack

Stadium in a hard fought contest.

 

Philadelphia jumped out to the early lead in the first inning when they

tallied 3 runs on 3 hits.  The key offensive moment was provided by Stan

Lopata who excited the crowd when he lifted one out of the park for a two run

home run (his 31st of the season).  New York could do no damage in the 9th.

 

Herm Wehmeier(11-8) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and

allowing 3 runs. Wehmeier got relief help from Jack Meyer who gained credit

for his 11th save.  Johnny Antonelli(11-13) was given the loss.  He allowed 3

homeruns in 2 innings of work.  

 

With this win, Philadelphia has a 63-73 record.  They have been 6-4 lately.

New York has a record of 61-73 after the loss.
