22,895 fans watched an exciting game at Wrigley Field. The St. Louis
Cardinals topped the Chicago Cubs by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.
St. Louis took the lead off Bob Rush in the first inning when they scored 4
runs on 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Joe Frazier who deflated the
spirits of the home town crowd when he popped a two-run clout over the fence
(his 5th of the season). Chicago threatened in the 9th but St. Louis was
able to put down the rally.
The victory was credited to Harvey Haddix(11-12) who went 7 innings, allowing
3 runs. Haddix got help from Herb Moford who earned his 1st save.
Rush(13-11) was the loser. He pitched 7 innings allowing 12 hits and no
walks.
