18,382 fans were treated to a fine game at Fenway Park as only one run

separated the combatants at game's end. The Boston Red Sox won by the

slimmest of margins, 8 to 7.



Boston had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 8th inning with 3 runs.

After an out was recorded, Sammy White kicked off the action when he reached

on an error. After another out, Jimmy Piersall came up and he drew a walk.

Gene Stephens then was hit by a pitch. Billy Goodman stepped in and he

doubled plating three runs. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 6

times.



The win was credited to Tom Hurd(3-2) who went 2 innings allowing 2 runs. The

losing pitcher was Ted Abernathy(5-9). Boston scored big getting 8 runs off

him in 7 and 2/3 innings.
