Willard Nixon pitched a complete game and Billy Klaus went deep and had 2 RBI
at Fenway Park as the seemingly unstoppable Boston Red Sox pulled off a
dramatic comeback beating the Detroit Tigers by the count of 6 to 4.
Boston erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs
using 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Eddie Joost got things rolling when
he doubled. Billy Goodman came to the plate and laced a base-hit resulting
in a run. Klaus then cracked a two-run shot (his 5th of the season) giving
Boston the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Boston managed
8 hits in their victory.
Nixon(10-10) was the winner allowing 4 runs for the game. Steve Gromek(8-12)
was given the loss in relief. He was not very effective, surrendering 6 runs
in 2 and 1/3 innings.
With the win, Boston continued their winning ways; their streak now stands at
7 games and counting.
