Center fielder Gus Bell had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Crosley Field where the

Cincinnati Redlegs beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 8 to 7.

 

In the 5th inning Cincinnati scored 4 runs when they had 5 base hits.  The big

moment was provided by Wally Post who made the crowd come alive when he

lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 38th of the season).

Philadelphia made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the

needed runs across.  

 

The victory went to Rudy Minarcin(6-5) who went 1/3 of an inning, allowing no

runs. Hersh Freeman got the save, his 12th.  The losing pitcher was Ron

Negray(3-4).  He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 5 innings of work.
