Center fielder Gus Bell had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the Cincinnati Redlegs
outscored the New York Giants 7 to 5.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Bell. He lined a one-base hit in the 1st inning, banged out a
single scoring a run in the 3rd inning, laced a base-hit in the 5th inning
and blasted a two-run home run (his 30th of the season) in the 7th inning.
Cincinnati and New York each finished the afternoon with 14 hits.
Hersh Freeman(7-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing
no runs. Jim Hearn(10-17) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 2
runs and 3 hits in 1 inning.
