Arnie Portocarrero delivered 5 solid innings as the Kansas City Athletics beat
the New York Yankees by a score of 5 to 1.
Kansas City delivered all the runs required in the 6th inning as they scored 5
runs on 4 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Jim Finigan who
silenced the stadium when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home
run (his 8th of the season). The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th
inning.
Portocarrero(9-3) allowed no runs in 5 innings, and picked up the victory. Tom
Gorman got the save, his 13th. Whitey Ford(18-6) took the loss.
