Rookie Webbo Clarke went 7 plus strong innings in his 1st ML start as the Nationals dumped the Athletics 5-1.

At Griffith Stadium the Washington Nationals easily handled the Kansas City

Athletics by the score of 5 to 1.



Washington took the lead off Johnny Gray in the first inning scoring one

runner. Both teams totaled 7 hits on the afternoon.



The victory was credited to Webbo Clarke(1-0) who went 7 and 1/3 innings,

allowing 1 run. Gray(0-3) took the loss. He couldn't find the strike zone

and allowed 6 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
