Shortstop Harvey Kuenn connected with a 'big fly' and had 2 RBI and Billy

Hoeft hurled a fine complete game shutout as the Detroit Tigers defeated the

dreadful Washington Nationals 9 to 0 at Griffith Stadium.



Hoeft(18-9) was very good in the win. He didn't give up much, just 5 hits and

3 walks in 9 innings. Detroit had many opportunities throughout the game and

scored in 6 separate innings.



Johnny Schmitz(9-10) took the loss. With this win, Detroit has a 72-70

record. They have been 5-5 lately. With this loss, Washington has a 3-7

record of late, 52-86 overall.
