Fred Marsh drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 9th as the Orioles edge the Athletics 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader.

George Zuverink went 9 strong innings as the Baltimore Orioles won a dandy at
Memorial Stadium over the woeful Kansas City Athletics, 3 to 2.
The deciding run was scored by Baltimore in the bottom of the 9th. Dave
Philley hit a single. Hal Smith came to the plate and laced a base-knock,
and an error was also committed. Chuck Diering then was walked intentionally
to load the bases. Bob Hale stepped in and he grounded into a double play.
Dave Pope stepped into the box and was walked intentionally to load the
bases. Fred Marsh joined his teammates in the uprising and drew a walk
giving Baltimore the victory as 8,301 happy fans celebrated wildly.
Baltimore had 7 hits for the afternoon.
Zuverink(3-6) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Art Ditmar(4-15)
was hit with the loss in relief. 'He had his 'A' game today,' Paul Richards
said of Zuverink. 'Very impressive performance.'
