Gus Zernial had 2 base hits as the Kansas City Athletics defeated the dreadful

Baltimore Orioles by the score of 7 to 6 at Memorial Stadium.

Mike Kume(1-2) was solid if not spectacular. He went 6 innings surrendering 8

hits and 3 walks. Baltimore had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Kume got help from Tom Gorman who earned his 14th save. The loss was charged

to Ed Lopat(5-10). He was touched for 11 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.

Despite losing Paul Richards was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over

this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one

of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'
