J.W. Porter had 2 base hits as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Kansas City
Athletics in 10 innings by the score of 2 to 1 at Briggs Stadium.
The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. Detroit won the hard fought
contest in the 10th inning. After two outs Bill Tuttle drew a walk. Porter
stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk. Ray Boone then drew a walk
to load the bases. Moe Burtschy then fired a sharp breaking ball that
appeared to cross-up the catcher. In any event, it got by him and was ruled
a passed ball giving Detroit the victory as 9,023 happy fans celebrated
wildly. Both teams finished the game with 6 hits.
The victory was credited to Bob Miller(3-1) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Burtschy(0-1) took the loss in relief. He allowed no hits and 3 walks
in 2/3 of an inning.
