Whitey Ford threw a 5 hitter for his 20th win of the year as the Yankees edged the Nationals 2-1 and split the twinbill.

Whitey Ford pitched a complete game as the New York Yankees topped the

Washington Nationals by a score of 2 to 1 at Griffith Stadium.



Ford(20-7) looked very much in control throughout the day. He didn't give up

much, just 5 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings. The pitchers took over after the

4th inning as neither team was able to score again.



The losing pitcher was Pedro Ramos(3-10). He gave up 8 hits and 4 walks in 7

and 2/3 innings.
